Our Adoption Journey

Hi our names are Tyler and Jessica. We can’t even begin to express how grateful we are that you would stop to read our letter.  It is a humbling experience to be involved in the adoption process. It has taught us that life never happens as you plan; there are bumps and turns in the road that you are not prepared for. Sometimes these bumps lead us to meet people we never would have met without them. We feel a lot of love and respect for you and the decision you are considering to make. We hope to meet you and hear your story, until then feel free to get to know us.

We grew up less than 2 miles apart but didn’t meet until Tyler had returned from serving his fulltime mission in Ireland and our friends decided to set us up on a blind date. We hit it off immediately and were married a year later. Now we’ve been married for 13 years, graduated college, started our careers and established a home to call our own.  Tyler stays busy by running a couple businesses with his dad, while Jessica is a registered nurse at the local hospital, freelance photographer, and until recently has coached several dance/cheerleading teams for the past 10 years.   We both love our jobs, our motto is:  work hard so we can play hard, and we like to play hard. In our free time we love to do anything outdoors.  In the summer you can find us down by the lake waterskiing, wakeboarding, or playing on the jet skis. We also like to go four wheeling, sightseeing, hiking, running and golfing. Every once in a while you’ll catch Tyler fishing while Jessica enjoys the sunshine and reads a book. Winter time is Tyler’s favorite because he can ride his snow machine in the mountains and play in the powder. He also gets to brush up on his basketball skills. He enjoys getting together with his friends and playing each week.  Jessica uses winter time to catch up on crafting, making jewelry and editing photos. We are surrounded by beautiful scenery to explore whether its summer or winter, we try to make the most of each season.   We are blessed to live so close to all of our parents and siblings. It’s rare to have everyone in one family in the same town and we enjoy spending time with our parents, siblings and nieces and nephews.

Having our own family has always been a priority and dream of ours. After years of struggling with infertility, we came to the conclusion that we must be going about things in the wrong way. 5 years ago we started the adoption process and we were able to adopt our first son in December of 2013. He has been our whole world and we have enjoyed every different stage of life with him so far. A few months ago he started to ask us for a baby brother. We thought it was a phase, but he is persistent. After much thought and prayer we have come to the decision that yes; there is another soul out there waiting to join our family. So we begin our search.

From Jessica:

Tyler is an easy guy to love.  He makes me laugh on a daily basis; I love that we can be silly and have fun together.  He is the hardest working person I know and he is always putting everyone else’s needs before his own. He is constantly looking for ways to make our lives better. I know Tyler is an amazing dad.  He has always been able to connect with kids on their level. He is everyone’s favorite uncle. All the little kids in the family and neighborhood flock to him and he plays so cute with each one. Our son loves anytime he gets to spend with his dad, whether it's tagging along with work stuff or riding on the motorbike. Tyler is one of those people who get along with everyone; he is friendly and kind to everyone we meet.   I feel so lucky to have Tyler in my life.

From Tyler:

The first time I met Jessica I was drawn to her smile.  She has a way of making  others  around her feel like they are loved and important. I have always been impressed how fast she makes friends.  Jessica is a caretaker by nature, she is always concerned about others well-being, which helps her in her profession as an oncology nurse.  Jessica is a great mom. She loves being around kids, and is very involved in the lives of our nieces and nephews. I love that her job allows her to work a little and stay home most of the time with our son. She's patient and loving and our son adores his mom.

Thanks for spending the time to get to know us better. It's been our experience that once you get to know someone and open up your heart to them, it doesn't matter where or who they came from.  Our hearts are open and waiting for someone to love. If we never meet we know that many people will be blessed by your decision and we wish you the best. Our thoughts and prayers are with you always.

Love, Tyler and Jessica

Hi Jessica and Tyler,
Thank you both for sharing, being vulnerable, and allowing your friends to follow your honest, emotional, and inspiring journey. You, Jessica, your family and all you do, is dear to my heart. I think about you very often; every time I wear my gorgeous opal pendant, or look at our photo on the shelf beside the tiny ballet slipper. I wish you lightness and courage, success, and the wonderful joys of becoming parents.
Lots of hugs,
Shawneea
